RE: Birthday "camping" gifts for 3 year old girl- any ideas??

I got my daughter a picnic set complete with all the cups, plates and silverware. It comes in a handy case. She absolutely loves it.

RE: Thinking about getting into RVing

Rving can be fun, it can also be very expensive. I would suggest that you rent a motor home first to see if your family has any interest before buying anything. I agree with the above post!!!!

RE: My first RV mistake

Real quick lesson; the back of the 5er moves real fast. I found this out the hard way, 1 bunk window and a 3 foot scrape on the fiberglass. The calprit, a 12" dia tree. Bunk window from ebay $35.00 Rubbing compound/polish/buffer $5.00 Having all your friends remind you of the above.....yup....priceless!!

RE: Any nifty Modifications you care to list ???

Nice job on the slide out deck. Please dont let my wife see this, I already have enough projects this winter to keep me busy, but in case she asks, what did you use for the frame and slide mechanism?

RE: Hitch Pin Broke in Accident

Anyone know what grade of steel the hitch pins are made of? I have an extensive background dealing with the design/testing of tow trucks. I used to see this kind of damage all the time when we purposely broke our units during the testing phase. We had a normal safety factor of 2-1 but the pins that we used to hold the hyd. cyls. in place had a SF of 4.25-1. The pins were 1 1/2" dia. fatigue proof, breakable at 145,000 psi min. yield. I would be willing to bet that the material composition within the steel had over the maximum allowable carbon, thusly making the material very brittle. You can see in the picture of how it was sheared without any failure to the pin at all, no bending or stress cracks. The welds on the pin appear to be real cold and not burned into the parent (metal) material on the pin box. The weld should have been all the way around and burned in but thats just my opinion. Dont get me started on the bolts.

RE: When Is Best Time To Go

Here in Iowa weather is unpredictable. Usually around Halloween snow starts to fall until mid April, some years in my area we had very little snow (less than 4"). March of this year we had a blizzard/ice storm that knocked out power to several thousand people for about a week, but thanks to our trusty 5er, 2 ceramic heaters, generator and 300 gallon fuel tank (live on a farm :)), my family of 4 was able to survive the winter storm with ease.

RE: You MIGHT be an RV'r if . . .

If you're at home and the wife comes back to bed saying she had to go to the bathroom and sleepily you reply, "Did you remember to turn the water pump off?" hmmmm happened to me QUILTY AS CHARGED..

RE: Is it a waste of Money

I dont think you need both, 5th AB should be all that you need.

RE: You MIGHT be an RV'r if . . .

If you have ever used your ceramic heater to roast marshmellows or cook hot dogs, chances are you just might be an RV'er
